USDA: Corn Use For Fuel Ethanol Production At 417 Million Bushels In April

USDA’s June report highlights an uptick in corn use for fuel ethanol in April, totaling 417 million bushels, a 15% increase from April 2023. Total corn consumption for alcohol and other uses was 466 million bushels, down 11% from March. Distillers solubles, corn oil, and dry grains saw production increases, while wet mills produced less corn gluten feed and meal. Carbon dioxide capture rose to 203,164 tons, up from April last year.

The USDA recently released its Grain Crushings and Co-Products Production report for June, reporting that corn use for fuel ethanol production in April was up slightly when compared to the same month of last year.

Total corn consumed for alcohol and other uses was 466 million bushels in April, down 11% from the previous month, but up slightly from April 2023. Corn consumed for fuel alcohol production in April was at 417 million bushels, down 12% when compared to March, but up 15 when compared to April of the previous year. Corn consumed for dry milling and wet milling fuel production was 92.1% and 7.9%, respectively. 

At dry mills, condensed distillers solubles production was at 88,403 tons in April, up from 84,812 tons in March, but down slightly from 88,609 tons in April 2023. Corn oil production was at 178,529 tons, down from 186,501 tons the previous month, but up from 167,162 tons in April of last year. Distillers dried grains production was at 376,770 tons, down from 394,388 tons in March, but up from 364,967 tons in April of last year. Distillers dried grains with solubles production was at 1.76 million tons, down from 1.93 million tons the previous month, but up from 1.62 million tons in April of the previous year. Distillers wet grains production was at 1.25 million tons, up rom 1.22 million tons in March, but down from 1.3 million tons in April 2023. Modified distillers grains production fell to 447,377 tons, down from 459,800 tons in March and 470,528 tons in April of the previous year. 

At wet mills, corn germ meal production was at 48,562 tons in April, down from 53,606 tons in March, but up from 46,599 tons in April of last year. Corn gluten feed production fell to 238,119 tons, down from 270,230 tons in March and 239,495 tons in April 2023. Corn gluten meal production was at 109,375 tons, down from 116,910 tons the previous month, but up slightly from 109,135 tons in March of the previous year. Wet corn gluten feed production was at 199,182 tons, down from 214,038 tons in March, but up from 194,485 tons in April of last year. 

At wet and dry mills, carbon dioxide captured was at 203,164 tons in April, down from 211,809 tons in March, but up from 198,722 tons in April 2023.
