USDA: Corn Use For Fuel Ethanol Production At 430 Million Bushels In September
Corn consumption for fuel ethanol production in September was down slightly when compared to the previous month, but up significantly when compared to the same month of 2022, according to the November edition of the USDA’s Grain Crushing and Co-Products Production Report.
Total corn consumed for fuel alcohol and other uses was 478 million bushels in September, down 2 percent from the previous month, but up 10 percent when compared to September 2022. September usage included 92 percent for alcohol and 8 percent for other purposes.
Corn consumed for fuel alcohol reached 430 million bushels, down 3 percent when compared to August, but up 12 percent from September of last year. Corn consumed for dry milling fuel production and wet milling fuel production was 92 percent and 8 percent, respectively.
At dry mills, condensed distillers solubles production was at 104,197 tons in September, down from 118,801 tons the previous month, but up from 101,728 tons in September 2022. Corn oil production was at 173,989 tons, down from 183,162 tons in August, but up from 159,873 tons in September of last year. Distillers dried grains production was at 364,881 tons, down from 394,888 tons the previous month, but up from 281,984 tons in September 2022. Distillers dried grains with solubles production was at 1.7 million tons, down from 1.78 million tons in August, but up from 1.61 million tons in September of last year. Distillers wet grains production expanded to 1.31 million tons, up from both 1.3 million tons in August and 1.25 million tons in September 2022. Modified distillers wet grains production fell to 391,487 tons, down from both 396,043 tons the previous month and 498,142 tons produced during the same month of last year,
At wet mills, corn germ meal production reached 54,432 tons in September, up from both 50,251 tons the previous month and 48,056 tons in September of last year. Corn gluten feed production was at 246,782 tons, down from 257,948 tons in August, but up from 238,468 tons in September 2022. Corn gluten meal production was at 107,988 tons, down from 127,748 tons in August, but up from 101,787 tons in September of the previous year. Wet corn gluten feed production was at 196,264 tons, down from 207,397 tons the previous month, but up from 192,999 tons produced during the same month of 2022.
At dry and wet mills, carbon dioxide captured fell to 203,013 tons, down from both 233,525 tons in August and 215,487 tons in September 2022.
