The USDA’s March report shows a 4% rise in corn use for fuel ethanol in January 2025 compared to the previous year. Total corn consumption for alcohol and other uses reached 503 million bushels. While distillers dried grains production declined, condensed distillers solubles and modified distillers grains saw year-over-year increases.

The USDA recently released its Grain Crushings and Co-Products Production Report for March, reporting that corn use for fuel ethanol production in January 2025 was up 4% when compared to the same month of 2024.

Total corn consumed for alcohol and other uses was 503 million bushels in January, down 5% when compared to December, but up 4% when compared to January 2024. Usage included 92.7% for alcohol and 7.3% for other purposes.

Corn consumed for fuel alcohol was at 457 million bushels in January, down 5% when compared to the previous month, but up 4% when compared to January of the previous year. Corn consumed for dry milling fuel production and wet milling fuel production was at 91.5% and 8.5%, respectively.

At dry mills, condensed distillers solubles production expanded to 123,827 tons in January, up from both 119,963 tons in December and 93,349 tons in January of the previous year. Corn oil production was at 191,896 tons, down from 203,630 tons the previous month, but up from 170,549 tons in January 2024.
