USDA: Corn use for fuel ethanol production at 474 million bushels in July

The USDA’s September Grain Crushings and Co-Products Production report reveals that corn use for fuel ethanol production in July increased 6% from June and 4% from July 2023, reaching 474 million bushels. Corn oil production rose to 204,818 tons, while distillers dried grains with solubles (DDGS) reached nearly 2 million tons. Carbon dioxide capture also expanded to 234,156 tons, reflecting a broader trend of increased ethanol-related production outputs.

The USDA recently released its Grain Crushings and Co-Products Production report for September, reporting that corn use for fuel ethanol production in July was up when compared to both the previous month and July of last year.

Total corn consumed for alcohol and other uses was 527 million bushels in July, up 6% from the previous month and up 4% from July 2023. Usage included 91.9% for alcohol and 8.1% for other purposes.

Corn consumed for fuel alcohol production reached 474 million bushels in July, up 6% when compared to June and up 4% when compared to July of last year. Corn consumed for dry milling fuel production and wet milling fuel production was at 92.2% and 7.8%, respectively.

At dry mills, condensed distillers solubles production fell to 90,835 tons in July, down from both 106,476 tons the previous month and 110,547 tons in July 2023. Corn oil production expanded to 204,818 tons, up from 186,820 tons in June and 187,808 tons in July of last year. Distillers dried grains production was at 392,863 tons, up from 353,837 tons the previous month, but down from 410,231 tons in July 2023. Distillers dried grains with solubles production expanded to nearly 2 million tons, up from both 1.8 million tons in June and 1.78 million tons in July of last year. Distillers wet grains production was at 1.22 million tons, up from 1.12 million tons the previous month, but down from 1.31 million tons in July 2023. Modified distillers wet grains production was at 396,354 tons, up from 379,426 tons the previous month, but down from 430,169 tons in July of last year.

At wet mills, corn germ meal production expanded to 64,601 tons in July, up from 60,015 tons the previous month and 48,269 tons in July 2023. Corn gluten feed production reached 293,887 tons, up from 60,015 tons in June and 277,997 tons in July of last year. Corn gluten meal production was at 118,626 tons, up from 113,544 tons in June, but down from 119,450 tons in July 2023. Wet corn gluten feed production was at 210,013 tons, up from 197,547 tons in June, but down from 224,484 tons in July of last year.
