USDA: Ethanol exports fall to 139 million gallons in February

In February 2025, U.S. ethanol exports fell to 138.75 million gallons, down from January and February 2024. Canada led as the top importer. Distillers grains exports reached 849,645 metric tons, also lower year-on-year, with Mexico as the leading buyer. Overall, ethanol and distillers grains exports for the first two months dropped in both volume and value compared to 2024.

The U.S. exported 138.75 million gallons of ethanol and 849,645 metric tons of distillers grains in February, according to data released by the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service on April 3. Exports of both products were down when compared to February 2024.

The 138.75 million gallons of ethanol exported in February was down when compared to both the 198.05 million gallons exported the previous month and the 139.02 million gallons exported in February of last year. 

The U.S. exported ethanol to approximately three dozen countries in February. Canada was the top destination for U.S. ethanol exports during the month at 50.81 million gallons, followed by the Philippines at 14.97 million gallons and the Netherlands at 14.59 million gallons.  

The value of U.S. ethanol exports fell to $293.24 million in February, down from $420.12 million in January and $309.11 million in February 2024.

Total ethanol exports for the first two months of the year reached 336.8 million gallons at a value of $713.35 million, compared to 288.99 million gallons exported during the same period of last year at a value of $647.65 million. 

The 849,645 metric tons of distillers grains exported in February was up when compared to the 811,480 metric tons exported in January, but down from the 986,337 metric tons exported in February 2024. 

The U.S. exported distillers grains to nearly 40 countries in February. Mexico was the top destination for U.S. distillers grains exports at 127,203 metric tons, followed by South Korea at 118,840 metric tons and Colombia at 73,911 metric tons. 

The value of U.S. distillers grains exports was at $205.61 million in February, up from $195.93 million the previous month, but down from $281.51 million in February 2024. 

Total distillers grains exports for the first two months of 2025 reached 1.66 million metric tons at a value of $401.54 million, compared to $1.89 million metric tons exported during the same period of 2024 at a value of $536.28 million.
