USDA increases forecast for FY 2026 ethanol export values

The USDA Economic Research Service raised its FY2026 U.S. ethanol export forecast to $4.7 billion, up from $4.6 billion. If achieved, exports will grow over 2% year-on-year and 13% versus FY2024. First-quarter shipments surged 17%, signaling strong global demand and sustained momentum in international ethanol markets.

The USDA Economic Research Service on Feb. 27 released its quarterly trade outlook report, announcing the agency now expects the value of fiscal year (FY) 2026 ethanol exports to reach $4.7 billion, up from the forecast of $4.6 billion made in December 2025.

FY 2026 began on Oct. 1, 2025, and ends on Sept. 30, 2026. If realized, the $4.7 billion in ethanol exports for FY 2026 would be up more than 2% when compared to FY 2025 and up 13% when compared to FY 2024.

The report estimates that the value of FY 2025 ethanol exports reached $4.595 billion, up from $4.144 billion in FY 2024, $3.486 billion in FY 2023 and $3.904 billion in FY 2022.

The report also notes that the value of U.S. ethanol exports reached an estimated $1.365 billion during the first quarter of FY 2026, the three-month period spanning October-December 2025, up more than 17% when compared to the $1.164 billion in exports reported for the same period of the previous year.
