USDA raises Kazakhstan’s wheat production forecast to 18.9 mln tons
Kazakhstan’s wheat outlook has improved after the USDA raised its 2025 production forecast to 18.9 million tons, aligning with last year’s harvest. The country has completed its grain harvest, producing 20.3 million tons of wheat, 4 million tons of barley, and a record 1 million tons of legumes, strengthening export prospects.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has significantly raised its wheat production outlook for Kazakhstan in its November report. Analysts increased the forecast to 18.9 million tons, compared with the September estimate of 16 million tons.
According to Yevgeny Karabanov, representative of the Grain Union of Kazakhstan, the revised projection brings USDA’s outlook closer to last year’s actual results. In 2024, Kazakhstan harvested 18.58 million tons of wheat, according to both USDA data and the National Bureau of Statistics of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Agriculture reports that the country has fully completed its grain and legume harvest. A total of 27.1 million tons was harvested from 16 million hectares. Wheat production reached 20.3 million tons—500,000 tons more than in the previous year.
Barley output remained stable at around 4 million tons, while the legume harvest reached a historic high, surpassing 1 million tons for the first time.
The updated USDA figures and official data from Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Agriculture indicate steady improvement in the country’s grain sector, potentially strengthening export opportunities in 2025.
