Uttar Pradesh: BKU (apolitical) chief demands Rs 450/quintal sugarcane price


BKU (Apolitical) chief Rajesh Singh Chauhan demanded a ₹450 per quintal sugarcane price ahead of the crushing season, warning of protests if unmet. En route to a Haridwar strategy meet, he cited positive talks with the Chief Minister. Chauhan also pledged action on stray cattle, including gherao of officials, and reiterated the need for MSP on all crops.

Khatauli: Bhartiya Kisan Union (apolitical) national president Rajesh Singh Chauhan on Monday said that the government must increase the price of sugarcane before the upcoming crushing season. He warned that farmers would launch a strong agitation to compel the government if their demands are not met. Chauhan demanded that sugarcane be priced at ₹450 per quintal, reported Amar Ujala.
Chauhan was on his way to Haridwar for a brainstorming session (chintan shivir) when he was welcomed by supporters in Bhangela village, located along the highway in Fatehpur district. He said the session would focus on the organization’s achievements and upcoming farmer-oriented initiatives.
He shared that he had recently held discussions with the Chief Minister about raising the sugarcane price and protecting crops from stray cattle. According to him, the Chief Minister had responded positively.
To address the stray cattle issue, Chauhan said that in the coming days, BKU workers would gherao District Magistrates (DMs), Chief Development Officers (CDOs), and Block Development Officers (BDOs) to press for action. He added that efforts would be made to ensure that the task of capturing stray cattle is carried out by the administration.
Chauhan said the government must announce the sugarcane price before the start of the new season, and he also reiterated the demand for fixing Minimum Support Prices (MSP) for all crops.
Among those present to welcome the BKU chief were national spokesperson Dharmendra Malik, Bijendra Balyan, Pavit Ahlawat, Sumit, Yogesh, Vishnu Giri, Satendra Chauhan, Asad Khan, and Bittu.
