Lucknow: The state cabinet on Thursday gave its nod to set up a new sugar plant in Morna, Muzaffarnagar. The new mill will be established at the Ganga Kisan Cooperative Sugar Mill with an increased crushing capacity from 2500 TCD to 3500 TCD in the first phase. The capacity would then be expanded up to 5000 TCD.The cabinet said that the decision will help reduce technical losses caused by the outdated and dilapidated plant and old technology.
This will also enable the proposed sugar mill, based on modern technology, to operate profitably.”This decision will benefit sugarcane farmers in the Morna region served by the Ganga Kisan Cooperative Sugar Mill, helping in doubling cane farmers’ income and ensuring timely payment for their produce,” the cabinet said in a statement. The development marked a significant intervention in the state’s sugar sector, particularly in western Uttar Pradesh where sugarcane happens to be the backbone of the rural economy.Cooperative sugar mills in UP have historically struggled to compete with private mills due to inefficiencies and delayed payments.
