PILIBHIT: Uttar Pradesh has emerged as the top-performing state in cane crushing, sugar output and recovery rate—outshining Maharashtra and Karnataka, though the 2024–25 sugar season records a sharp dip in production across India. As per the National Federation of Cooperative Sugar Factories Limited (NFCSF) report released on July 30, India’s total sugar production is projected at 258.20 lakh metric tonnes (LMT), down 18.38% from 316.35 LMT in 2023–24. However, states like Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, which have a special June–September crushing season, have shown improved momentum.Karnataka now has seven mills in operation, and Tamil Nadu nine—compared to one and eleven, respectively, during the same period last year.
