Uttar Pradesh to see major boost in compressed biogas plants
Gorakhpur: Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said that Uttar Pradesh is set to see a significant expansion in compressed bio-gas (CBG) infrastructure, with 100 plants expected to come up in the coming months. Minister Puri announced this during the inauguration of Indian Oil’s CBG plant at Dhuriapar on Friday.
Highlighting the plant’s role in environmental protection, boosting farmers’ income, and promoting energy self-reliance, Minister Puri commended the efforts towards these goals. The Indian Oil CBG plant, established with a capital investment of Rs 165 crore, is designed to utilize 200 metric tonnes of agricultural residue (paddy straw), 20 metric tonnes of press mud, and 10 metric tonnes of cattle dung daily.
The plant is projected to produce approximately 20 metric tonnes of biogas and 125 metric tonnes of organic fertilizer per day, contributing to increased agricultural production through the use of organic fertilizers. Minister Puri expressed satisfaction with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s Green Hydrogen policy, anticipating substantial investments in the sector. He also announced plans to establish a green hydrogen plant in his adopted district, Sonbhadra.
Minister Puri emphasized the pivotal role of farmers in the energy sector and linked the CBG plant to their active participation. He noted the substantial growth in gas connections from 14 crore in 2014 to 32 crore, highlighting the success of the Ujjwala scheme, which provided 10 crore women with free gas connections, with 8 crore benefiting rural women.
Appreciating Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s leadership, Minister Puri stated that Uttar Pradesh, under his guidance, is progressing towards becoming a trillion-dollar economy. He concluded by asserting that Uttar Pradesh’s contribution is instrumental in achieving the national goal of a five trillion-dollar economy.
