Vietnam 2025 rice exports seen falling 11.5% on Philippines import ban
Vietnam’s rice exports are expected to drop 11.5 per cent to eight million tonnes in 2025 as shipments to the Philippines stopped following its import ban imposed in September to protect local farmers. Vietnam, the world’s third-largest exporter, also supplies Indonesia and African markets, but Philippine demand remains crucial.
HANOI: Vietnam’s rice exports are forecast to fall 11.5 per cent this year to around eight million metric tonnes due to a sharp fall in shipments to the Philippines, the chairman of the country’s food association said on Tuesday (Dec 2).
Vietnam is the world’s third-largest rice exporter, after India and Thailand, and its key markets are the Philippines, Indonesia and Africa.
Its shipments to the Philippines, its largest market, came to a halt after the Philippines put a ban on rice imports in September to protect local farmers. The ban is set to last until the end of this year. – Reuters
