Wheat procurement resumes, farmers welcome decision in Madhya Pradesh
INDORE: The state government’s decision to resume wheat procurement process and extend deadline to repay kharif loan till April 30 have come as a major relief for farmers. But they are still waiting for compensation of crop loss caused due to hailstorm and heavy rain.
“We welcome the state government’s decision to resume wheat procurement, which was earlier halted from March 28-31 to dry moisture content of wheat caused due to untimely rain in many districts,” Bharatiya Kisan Majdoor Sena state president Bablu Jadhav said.
Apart from revoking this order, extending deadline to repay kharif loan from March 28 to April 30 has come as a major relief for the farmers, he added.
In Indore, around 37,000 wheat producers have made registration, while district administration has erected a total 97 centres to make expected procurement of 1.75 lakh metric tonnes at Rs 2125 per quintal.
“Crop loss due to untimely rain and hailstorm was reported in Indore, Khargone, Khandwa, Mandsaur, Neemuch, Shajapur, Agar and some other districts of Indore and Ujjain divisions,” Jadhav said.
“Around 15% loss of crop has been reported in some villages of Sanwer, but it’s under the criteria for compensation,” Indore ADM Abhay Bedekar said.
Survey of crop loss reported due to hailstorm and heavy rainfall has also been completed. But they are considering damage to many places as below 25%, while compensation is only provided on reporting crop loss at or above this mark.
“We have completed the survey that revealed crop loss in some villages of Barwaha tehsil. The compensation will soon be distributed among affected farmers,” Khargone collector Shivraj Singh Verma said.
