Zimbabwe’s food needs might increase in 2024 as 2.7 million people face hunger

Zimbabwe farmers, accustomed to struggling with frequent droughts, are now facing the additional burdens of an El Niño weather system and the rocketing costs of fertiliser and fuel. A season of late rains, or no rains at all in some districts, mean that the country is likely to face severe food shortages in 2024, according to a World Food Programme (WFP) forecast.
