Zuari’s ethanol plant expected to be commissioned by end of November

A grain-based ethanol plant by Zuari Industries in Lakhimpur Kheri is set to begin production by late November. The 180 KLPD facility, part of a broader industrial push in the district, is expected to create about 2,000 jobs and raise demand for maize and rice, supporting farmers and regional development.

Lakhimpur Kheri (Uttar Pradesh): The grain-based ethanol factory, expected to give a major push to industrial development in the district, is set to begin production by the end of November. The state-of-the-art facility of Zuari Industries, coming up in Lakhimpur Kheri, is poised to open new avenues for investment and employment in the region.

Industrial activity in the district has picked up pace since last year’s ground-breaking ceremony. Of the 54 identified industrial units, 43 have already been established, while work on the remaining 11 is progressing rapidly. All units are expected to become fully operational by the end of December. Among them, the most prominent is the ethanol plant, which will produce ethanol using agricultural crops such as maize and rice.

A technical officer associated with the project said the plant will have a production capacity of 180 KLPD, enabling continuous operation throughout the year.

Industry Deputy Commissioner Ujjwal Singh said the project will play a significant role in strengthening the rural economy. The factory will generate employment for nearly 2,000 people, both directly and indirectly, creating major opportunities for local youth in terms of jobs and skill development. The establishment of the plant is also expected to boost maize and rice cultivation in the district, reported Dainik Jagran.

In line with the national ethanol blending policy, the facility will support the state’s efforts to become more self-reliant in the energy sector. In an agriculture-dominated district like Lakhimpur Kheri, the launch of a maize- and rice-based ethanol unit is expected to benefit farmers by increasing the local demand for grains.

Recently, Zuari Industries, in its press release, stated that the 180 KLPD bioethanol plant under Zuari Envien Bioenergy Pvt Ltd (ZEBPL) – a 50:50 joint venture between Zuari Industries Limited and Envien International, is scheduled for commissioning in November 25.
