Prices of edible oil, broiler, egg, garlic surge
The prices of edible oil, broiler chicken, eggs and garlic increased while the prices of vegetables decreased on the kitchen markets in the capital
Dhaka over the week ending Friday.
Traders said that distributors increased the price of edible oil while the wholesale prices of broiler chicken and eggs increased at farm level
They also said that the prices of vegetables went down due to increased supply of winter items while the prices of garlic increased due to an offseasonal supply shortage.
The prices of onions started to decrease but still remained high on the city markets on Friday.
The price of edible oil increased by Tk 5 a litre and unpackaged soya bean oil sold for Tk 155-160 a litre while packaged item sold for Tk 170 a litre
on the day.
A five-litre bottled soya bean oil sold for Tk 810-845.
The price of palm oil also remained high and the item sold for Tk 130-140 a litre in the city on Friday.
The price of eggs increased by Tk 2 a hali (four pieces) and the item sold for Tk 44-46 a hali (four pieces) in the city.
The price of broiler chicken increased by Tk 10 a kilogram and the item sold for Tk 180–190 a kilogram on Friday.
Locally bred hens sold for Tk 550–600 a kilogram on the day.
Sonalika variety of chicken sold for Tk 300–310 a kilogram in the city on Friday.
The prices of garlic increased by Tk 30-50 a kilogram on the kitchen markets in Dhaka and its local variety retailed at Tk 250–270 a kilogram while
the imported garlic sold for Tk 200–220 a kilogram on Friday.
The prices of vegetables decreased in the city on Friday.
Aubergine sold for Tk 50-70 a kilogram, papaya for Tk 30–40 a kilogram, bitter gourd for Tk 60-70 a kilogram, cauliflower for 40-50 apiece,
cabbage for 40 apiece, cucumber for Tk 40–50 a kilogram, beans for Tk 40-60 a kilogram, carrot for Tk 60–70 a kilogram and tomatoes for Tk 50–
80 a kilogram on Friday.
Green chillies sold for Tk 100-240 a kilogram in the city on Friday.
The prices of onions decreased slightly as the early variety of the item started to hit the market.
The local variety of onions sold for Tk 110-160 a kilogram while the imported item sold for Tk 110-120 a kilogram on the day.
The prices of potatoes increased by Tk 5 a kilogram and the item sold for Tk 50-60 a kilogram.
The prices of ginger remained high and imported ginger sold for Tk 200-250 a kilogram while the local variety sold for Tk 260-300 a kilogram.
The price of atta remained high and unpackaged item sold for Tk 50 a kilogram while the packaged item sold for Tk 60-65 a kilogram in the city on
Friday.
The price of packaged refined atta increased by Tk 5 a kilogram and the item sold for Tk 70-75 a kilogram in the city.
BR-28 variety, also known as a lower-grade Miniket, retailed at Tk 62–66 a kilogram.
The fine variety of Miniket sold for Tk 72–75 a kilogram and Najirshail for Tk 70–80 a kilogram on Friday.
The price of sugar also remained high over the week and the unpackaged item sold for Tk 150-155 a kilogram while packaged item for Tk 165-170 a
kilogram in the city on Friday.
The price of beef remained unchanged and the item sold for Tk 650-700 a kilogram on the day.
The prices of fish also remained high over the week in the city.
Rohita sold for Tk 300–400 a kilogram and Katla for Tk 300–440 a kilogram, depending on size and quality.
Pangas sold for Tk 180–200 a kilogram and Tilapia for Tk 160–200 a kilogram on Friday.
The coarse variety of red lentil sold for Tk 110 a kilogram and the medium-quality variety for Tk 125–130 a kilogram on Friday.
The price of fine variety of red lentil remained high and the item sold for Tk 135–140 a kilogram on Friday.
The price of mutton remained high and the item sold for Tk 1,000–1,200 a kilogram on the day.
The price of salt also remained high and the item sold for Tk 42 a kilogram in the city.
