Brazil sugar production more than triples in early December -UNICA
Brazil’s center-south sugar production more than tripled in the first half of December when compared with a year earlier, data from industry group UNICA showed on Tuesday, rising 205.4% to 925,000 tonnes.
UNICA said in a report that 19.08 million tons of sugarcane were crushed in the period, up 244.3% from a year ago, with total ethanol production jumping 113.7% to 1.02 billion liters.
Mills in Brazil’s main sugarcane belt are now concluding crushing for this season.
According to UNICA, 162 units have finished processing so far, down from 214 at the same time last year when bad weather affected the crop. Another 83 units are seen finishing activities in the second half of December.
