EIA: Ethanol Production Down 1%, Stocks Up 2%, Exports Down 55%
U.S. fuel ethanol production was down less than 1% the week ending Feb. 23, according to data released by the U.S. Energy Information Administration on Feb.28. Ethanol stocks were up 2%, reaching the highest level since March 2023, and exports were down 55%.
Fuel ethanol production averaged 1.078 million barrels per day the week ending Feb. 23, down 6,000 barrels per day when compared to the 1.084 million barrels per day of production reported for the previous week. When compared to the same week of last year, production for the week ending Feb. 23 was up 75,000 barrels per day.
Weekly ending stocks of fuel ethanol expanded to 26.022 million barrels the week ending Feb. 23, up 520,000 barrels when compared to the 25.502 million barrels of stocks reported for the previous week. When compared to the same week of last year, stocks for the week ending Feb. 23 were up 1.247 million barrels.
Exports of fuel ethanol averaged 77,000 barrels per day the week ending Feb. 23, down 93,000 barrels per day when compared to the 170,000 barrels per day of exports reported for the previous week. Data on weekly ethanol exports is not available for the corresponding week of 2023 as the EIA began reporting weekly data on fuel ethanol exports in June 2023. No fuel ethanol imports were reported for the week ending Feb. 23.
