India’s first CNG bike coming soon!
CNG sales have skyrocketed in the last few years due to rising fuel prices and better efficiency. However, for now, CNG has been restricted to the car segment. In the two-wheeler segment, people have done DIYs to fit CNG in their bikes, but there have been no factory-fitted options. Bajaj is looking to change that as it is working on a CNG bike. In today’s article, let’s talk about first CNG bike in India.
According to media reports, Bajaj Auto is working on a sleeve of fuel options for its bikes. This includes LPG, CNG and ethanol-blended fuel options for its lineup. The brand wants to offer alternatives that are low on running costs and are also better for the environment. Bajaj is already working on a petrol cum CNG bike codenamed Bruzer 101. According to the brand, the bike is already in the final stages of development, and if all goes to plan, it could see the light of day in six months or a year. The brand also stated the first few prototypes of the bike and plans to produce the 110cc bike at its Aurangabad factory and then eventually in its Pant Nagar facility. Bajaj could use the Platina nameplate on this CNG bike.
Bajaj’s plan
Rakesh Sharma, ED, Bajaj Auto declined to share the exact specifics of the bike. He stated that the numbers, timelines, brand names and specs are way off the mark and that is why he cannot share the details till the time they are finalised. However, he stressed that the company has recognised and internalised the twin challenges the country faces of reducing import bills and reducing pollution. He also stated how Bajaj had been the pioneer in adopting 3-wheelers to CNG and LPG. The brand is readying for a good demand, earlier it planned to produce about 1-1.2 lakh CNG bikes per annum, but it has revised that to about 2 lakh units per annum.
