UNICA: Ethanol Production, Sales Up In Late February

UNICA, the Brazilian sugarcane industry association, has announced sugarcane processing in late February continued to trend above the previous year. Ethanol production, particularly from corn feedstock, was also up significantly. 

Mills in the south-central region of Brazil processed 551,730 metric tons of sugarcane during the second half of February, up from 71,790 metric tons processed during the same period of last year. Sugarcane processing since the beginning of the current harvest season, which began April 1, 2023, reached 647.15 million metric tons, up 19.12% when compared to the same period of the previous harvest season. 

Mills in the region produced 328.83 million liters (86.87 million gallons) of ethanol during the second half of February, up 114% when compared to the same period of last year. Production included 294.65 million liters of hydrous ethanol, up 197%, and 34.18 million liters of anhydrous ethanol, down 37.86%. Corn ethanol production accounted for 89% of total production at 292.94 million liters, up 95.53% when compared to the same period of 2023. 

Ethanol production since the start of the current harvest season reached 32.7 billion liters up 15.68%, including 19.72 billion liters of hydrous ethanol, up 21.44%, and 12.98 billion liters of anhydrous ethanol, up 7.91%. Corn ethanol accounted for 5.7 billion liters of production, up 42.82%.

Mills in the south-central region sold 2.82 billion liters of ethanol in February, up 32.44% when compared to the same month of last year. Sales included 1.82 billion liters of hydrous ethanol, up 54.24%, and 998.8 million liters of anhydrous ethanol, up 5.28%.
