USDA: Corn Use For Fuel Ethanol Production Down In January
The USDA recently released its Grain Crushings and Co-Products Production report for March, reporting that corn use for fuel ethanol production in January was down when compared to both the previous month and January 2023.
Total corn consumed for alcohol and other uses was 477 million bushels in January, down 10% when compared to December and down 3% when compared to January of the previous year. January usage included 92.8% for alcohol and 7.2% for other purposes.
Corn consumed for fuel alcohol production fell to 434 million bushels, down 10% when compared to the previous month and down 2% when compared to January 2023. Corn consumed for dry milling and wet milling fuel production was at 92.4% and 7.6%, respectively.
At dry mills, condensed distillers solubles production fell to 93,416 tons in January, down from 95,804 tons the previous month and 100,116 tons in January of the previous year. Corn oil production fell to 170,338 tons, down from 184,244 tons in December and 172,399 tons in January 2023. Distillers dried grains production was at 366,738 tons, down from 388,932 tons the previous month and 374,753 tons in January of the previous year. Distillers dried grains with solubles production was at 1.76 million tons, down from 1.95 million tons in December, but up from 1.71 tons in January 2023. Distillers wet grains production was at 1.3 million tons, down from 1.4 million tons the previous month, but up from 1.26 million tons in January of the previous year. Modified distillers wet grains production fell to 474,498 tons, down from both 482,524 tons in December and 582,926 tons in January 2023.
