Cane growers seek dues from factory
In Kalaburagi, sugarcane growers have urged the KPR factory in Chinamagera to pay Rs 16 crore in dues pending for 2022-23. Alleging cheating, they demanded action from the sugar commissioner in Bengaluru, supported by a memorandum. While other factories like Renuka Sugars paid Rs 2,550 per tonne, KPR paid only Rs 2,500, keeping Rs 50 per tonne as balance. If unpaid, growers plan to agitate and halt the factory’s operations.
Kalaburagi: Sugarcane growers in Kalaburagi district have urged KPR sugarcane factory to pay them dues pending for 2022-23. The factory in Chinamagera has been cheating them without paying, they alleged, putting the dues for 2022-23 at Rs 16 crore.
Sugarcane Growers’ Association district president Ramesh Hugar, who met the sugar commissioner in Bengaluru recently, urged the latter to take legal action against the factory management.
A memorandum has also been submitted in this regard.
Other sugarcane factories in the district, like Renuka Sugars, have paid Rs 2,550 per tonne to farmers.
Though the factories in the district have promised to pay Rs 2,550 per tonne, KPR factory has paid only Rs 2,500, and kept Rs 50 per tonne as balance, they said. If the dues are not paid, they will launch agitation in front of the factory, and will not let the factory function, he said.
