NRL’s biorefinery to start ethanol production by July-August: Media report

NRL’s pioneering bamboo-based biorefinery in Assam, India, is set to commence ethanol production by late July or early August, confirms Managing Director Bhaskar Jyoti Phukan. Despite initial expectations for a March 2024 start, Phukan assures there are no delays, citing the complexity of deploying new technology in India. The commissioning, progressing through eight phases, has completed two successfully since March. NRL remains optimistic about achieving its production milestone soon.

Assam: NRL’s biorefinery, a first-of-its-kind bamboo-based facility in India, is on track to begin ethanol production by late July or early August according to Managing Director Bhaskar Jyoti Phukan, reported PSU Watch.

Previous reports had suggested that the biorefinery would be operational by March 2024. When asked about any delays in its commissioning, the Managing Director of NRL responded, “No. It involves deploying complex technology in India for the first time. Commissioning has been ongoing since March. Two phases have been successfully completed. We are optimistic about producing ethanol by the end of July or August.” The commissioning process of the refinery is divided into eight phases, with two already completed.
