Hunger: FG Distributes Rice, Garri, Maize To Abuja Residents
Federal Capital Territory: The Federal Government has donated 44,656 bags of assorted food items to Abuja residents through the FCT Administration. Minister of State Mariya Mahmoud announced the delivery, including 23,996 bags of 25kg rice and an additional consignment of 9,580 bags comprising maize, sorghum, garri, and millet. The distribution aims to support residents amid food security concerns.
The Federal Govern – ment has donated 44,656 bags of assort – ed food items to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Administration for onward distribution to Abuja residents.
At a ceremony to kickoff the distribution of the items, the Minister of State for the FCT Mariya Mahmoud said they took delivery of 23,996 bags of 25kg rice from the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security.
Mahmoud also said an additional consignment of 9,580 bags consisting of 4,680 bags of maize, 13,920 bags of sorghum, 960 bags of garri and 1100 bags of millet were also received.
The minister said the items were released to help Nigerians in the face of the continued food scarcity and high cost of food items.
To ensure seamless distribution exercise, she “instructed the relevant Secretariat, Departments, and Agencies, SDAs to put in place the necessary security measures to avert the ugly incidence of the past when miscreants hijack them.”
She added: “We are also not oblivious of the fact that for any meaningful development to be sustained, due attention must be placed on the welfare of our citizens.”
