Cost of damages to sugarcane crop and mills revised downwards

The Ministry of Sugar has revised the flood damage costs from $18 million to $8.5 million. Director Viliame Gucake attributed the decrease to a reassessment. The Rarawai Mill cleaning cost is estimated at $2 million, while crop rehabilitation will cost $2.5 million, tramline improvements and repairs $3 million, and cane access roads $1 million. The other mills in the country were not damaged. The ministry is waiting for a proper water supply to clean the silt and debris from the flood. Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama was initially presented with the higher estimate.
