Fiji: Engineers to complete repairs at Rarawai sugar mill at earliest

Engineers at the Rarawai sugar mill in Ba, Fiji, are racing to complete repairs today to restore full operational capacity. Technical issues caused disruptions, but Permanent Secretary of Sugar Yogesh Karan set a deadline for tomorrow morning to rectify the problem. Meanwhile, the future of the Penang sugar mill in Rakiraki remains uncertain after severe damage from Cyclone Winston in February forced its closure for the season. Karan confirmed the mill’s fate has not been decided. Repairs at Rarawai aim to prevent future disruptions and ensure a smooth sugar production process.

Engineers at the Rarawai sugar mill in Ba are expected to complete repair works on the machinery today, aiming to restore the mill to its full operational capacity, reported Fiji Village.

Permanent Secretary of Sugar Yogesh Karan confirmed to Fiji village that disruptions at the Rarawai mill were due to technical issues. Karan mentioned that he had given the engineers a deadline of tomorrow morning to identify and rectify the problem to prevent future occurrences.

Karan stated that the future of the Penang sugar mill in Rakiraki remains undecided. The Penang Mill, which suffered severe damage from Cyclone Winston in February, has been closed for this season.
