EPA: 2.06 billion RINs generated under the RFS in August
In August 2024, the U.S. EPA reported nearly 2.06 billion RINs generated under the Renewable Fuel Standard, slightly down from August 2023. Year-to-date, 16.49 billion RINs have been generated, an increase from 2023. Key categories include D3 cellulosic biofuels, D4 biomass-based diesel, D5 advanced biofuels, and D6 renewable fuels, primarily ethanol. No D7 RINs were issued.
The U.S. EPA on Sept. 19 released data showing nearly 2.06 billion renewable identification numbers (RINs) were generated under the Renewable Fuel Standard in August, down from 2.07 billion generated during the same month of last year. Total RIN generation for the first eight months of 2024 reached 16.49 billion, up from 15.49 billion generated during the same period of 2023.
