Assam: For ethanol industry, requirement of maize increased considerably, says CM
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the state aims to issue 10 lakh Soil Health Cards to farmers this year, a step to boost agricultural productivity. The initiative was launched at Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra in Guwahati, alongside distributing farm machinery and inaugurating agriculture knowledge centers. Sarma emphasized the growing maize demand for ethanol production and highlighted collaborations with OIL India and Reliance for biofuel projects. The state is committed to supporting farmers and enhancing Assam’s self-reliance in agriculture.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Monday that the state government has set the target of issuing 10 lakh Soil Health Cards this year.
CM Sarma launched the distribution of these cards to farmers across the state during a programme held at Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra in Guwahati. The event also marked the beginning of the distribution of farm machinery and the inauguration of agriculture knowledge centres.
Speaking at the event, Chief Minister Sarma described the day as significant, emphasizing the government’s focus on empowering farmers. He highlighted that the distribution of Soil Health Cards is a key step in supporting farmers’ growth and productivity.
He also said that for the ethanol industry, requirement of maize increased considerably. Moreover, State government along with OIL India Limited and Reliance are in the process of producing bio-fuel in the State.
Sarma expressed his gratitude to Agriculture Minister Atul Bora for his efforts in revitalizing the state’s agriculture sector, which he sees as central to Assam’s vision of becoming “Atmanirbhar Asom.” He also thanked the state’s farmers for their vital role, calling them the backbone of Assam’s self-reliance initiatives, according to a press release.
To boost ethanol production, the state government is committed to taking all necessary steps to ensure progress in this sector.
Earlier, Minister Pijush Hazarika stated, “In Assam, four industries have been set up in Assam to produce ethanol & maize is the key ingredients for ethanol production. I urge our farmers to cultivate maize & enhance their income.”
