Bangladesh Govt to procure 2 cargos LNG, 50,000 MTs non-Basmati rice, 50,000 MTs wheat
On November 6, 2024, the Bangladesh government approved several procurement proposals to meet the country’s growing demands. These include 50,000 MTs of wheat, 50,000 MTs of non-Basmati rice, 30,000 MTs of fertilizer, and two LNG cargos. Additionally, procurement of 5,000 MTs of sugar and infrastructure development for landing stations under the Bangladesh Regional Inland Waterway Transport Project were also approved.
DHAKA, Nov 06, 2024 (BSS) – The government today approved separate proposals for procuring some two cargos of LNG, 50,000 MTs of wheat, 50,000 MTs of non-Basmati boiled rice and 30,000 tons of fertilizer to meet the growing demand of the country.
The approval was given at the 11th meeting (2024) of the Advisers Council Committee on Government Purchase (ACCGP) held here today at the Cabinet Division conference room at Bangladesh Secretariat. Adviser on the Ministries of Finance and Commerce Dr Salehuddin Ahmed chaired the meeting.
Following a proposal from the Ministry of Food, the government would procure some 50,000 MTs of wheat from M/S Agrocorp International Pte Ltd 10, Anson Road, 32-03 International Plaza, Singapore under Open Tender Method (OTM) with around Taka 180.82 crore where per MT wheat would cost US$301.38.
In response to another proposal from the Ministry of Food, the government would procure some 50,000 MTs of non-Basmati boiled rice from M/S Pattabhi Agro Foods Private Limited, Velpur 534 222, Tanuku andal, W.G.Dt.AP, India under Open Tender Method (OTM) with around Taka 286.20 crore where per MT rice would cost $477.
Following a proposal from the Ministry of Industries, the Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) would procure some 30,000 MTs of bulk granular urea fertilizer from Muntajat, Qatar under the 4th lot for the fiscal year (FY25) with around Taka 140.28 crore with per ton fertilizer costing $389.67.
Following a proposal from the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, the government would procure one cargo LNG from the spot market from M/S Total Energies Gas & Power Limited, Switzerland with around Taka 618.89 crore where per MMBtu LNG would cost $13.12.
In response to another proposal from the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, the government would procure one cargo LNG from the spot market from M/S Gunvor Singapore Pte. Ltd. Singapore with around Taka 635.44 crore where per MMBtu LNG would cost $13.47.
Following a proposal from the Ministry of Commerce, the state-run Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) would procure some 5,000 MTs of sugar from City Sugar Industries Limited under local Open Tender Method (OTM) with around Taka 60.45 crore where per kg sugar would cost Taka 120.90.
The ACCGP meeting also approved a procurement proposal of the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) under the Ministry of Shipping to procure ‘Works for upgradation or construction of landing stations (Launch Ghats) including necessary infrastructure at ilIisha (Bhola), Monpura, Bankerhat, Daulatkhan and Tojumuddin under the Bangladesh Regional Inland Waterway Transport Project-1 from ML-TBL JV with a cost of Taka 150.98 crore.
The meeting also approved another proposal of the BIWTA to procure “Works for upgradation/construction of landing stations (Launch Ghats) including necessary infrastructure at Moju Chowdhury, Motirhat, Tomuruddin and Boddarhat under the Bangladesh Regional Inland Waterway Transport Project-1 from Sheltech-Banga-Niaz (JV) Bangladesh with a cost of Taka 112.27 crore.
