Assam Cabinet accords approval to PLI of Rs 2/litre of ethanol to 3 grain based ethanol units
The Assam Cabinet has approved a Rs 2 per litre Production Linked Incentive (PLI) for three grain-based ethanol manufacturing units for three years. This supports the Ethanol Blended Petrol (EBP) Programme, where Public Sector Oil Marketing Companies blend ethanol with petrol. The government also promotes ethanol production through expanded feedstocks, price mechanisms, and support schemes.
In order to boost farmers’ income and move to cleaner fuel alternatives, Assam Cabinet has accorded approval to Production Linked Incentive (PLI) of Rs 2 per litre of ethanol for a period of 3 years to 3 grain based ethanol manufacturing units.
The Government has been promoting blending of ethanol in petrol under the Ethanol Blended Petrol (EBP) Programme wherein Public Sector Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) sell ethanol blended with petrol.
In order to promote blending of ethanol in petrol, the Government has taken several measures which includes expansion of feedstock for production of ethanol, administered price mechanism for procurement of cane-based ethanol under the EBP Programme, Ethanol Interest Subvention Schemes (EISS) for ethanol production from molasses as well as grains and Long-Term Offtake Agreements (LTOAs) by OMCs with Dedicated Ethanol Plants (DEPs) etc.
