Uttar Pradesh: Minister requests Yogi Adityanath to reopen Rasra sugar mill

Uttar Pradesh Transport Minister Dayashankar Singh has urged Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to reopen the Rasra sugar mill, closed since the 2013-14 season. The mill, established in 1975-76, previously supported sugarcane growers from Ballia, Ghazipur, and Mau districts. Singh emphasized the mill’s economic importance and its potential to alleviate farmers’ financial struggles. The appeal followed a similar request by Babbal Singh Raghuvanshi, vice-chairman of the Farmers’ Cooperative Committee of Rasra.

Dalanchhapra: The Uttar Pradesh Transport Minister, Dayashankar Singh, has written a letter to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, requesting the reopening of the Rasra sugar mill. The move follows a similar appeal made by Babbal Singh Raghuvanshi, vice-chairman of the Farmers’ Cooperative Committee of Rasra, who had earlier sent a letter to the transport minister urging him to take action, reported Live Hindustan.

The sugar mill, established in 1975-76, had been an important factor in supporting sugarcane growers in Ballia, Ghazipur, and Mau districts. Thousands of growers from the areas were supplying sugarcane to the mill. After the 2013-14 crushing season, it has been closed and ever since then, it has caused significant economic shocks for farmers.

The transport minister, in his letter, highlighted the importance of the mill to the economy and requested the chief minister to direct relevant authorities to take action. He pointed out that reviving the mill would be in the public interest as it would help to redress the current economic crisis facing the farmers.
