Zambia : ZNS Targets 50,000 Hectares of Maize by 2027
The Zambia National Service (ZNS) aims to cultivate 50,000 hectares of maize by 2027 to boost food security. ZNS Commander Lieutenant General Maliti Solochi announced plans to expand maize production at Musakashi farm and begin growing medicinal cannabis next month. Copperbelt Deputy Permanent Secretary Daniel Kamenga commended ZNS for supporting agricultural development in Zambia.
The Zambia National Service (ZNS) targets to grow about 50,000 hectares of maize by 2027.
ZNS Commander, Lieutenant General Maliti Solochi, says the target can be met as the service has acquired more land.
General Solochi says this is in a bid to increase maize production and contribute to the country’s food security.
General Maliti Solochi was speaking when he toured Musakashi farm in Mufulira District, Copperbelt Province.
The Commander also disclosed that the Ministry of Health has granted the service a commencement order to grow cannabis and industrial hemp for medicinal purposes, scheduled to start next month.
ZNS Chief of Agriculture, Brigadier General Chabala Mwanza, revealed that the service is expanding its maize production at Musakashi farm from over 100 hectares to over 300 hectares by February 2025.
Copperbelt Deputy Permanent Secretary, Daniel Kamenga, praised ZNS for its efforts in contributing to food security through agricultural initiatives.
