Assam Cabinet Approves Clean Energy Policy, Boosts Solar, Wind, Hydro, And Green Hydrogen Initiatives

The Assam Cabinet has taken a significant step towards promoting renewable energy by approving the Assam Integrated Clean Energy Policy, 2025. This policy aims to make the state a leading investment destination in the renewable energy sector by encouraging solar, wind, mini, and small hydro projects, pumped storage projects, battery energy storage systems, green hydrogen, biofuel, and electric vehicle systems. The Cabinet has approved the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) Board’s decision to issue a Letter of Acceptance to successful bidders for the development of a 250 MW solar plant. Further, under the “Mukhya Mantri Sauro Shakti Prokolpo,” the government has sanctioned the development of common infrastructure for solar parks. These initiatives will help increase the state’s renewable energy capacity, reduce dependence on fossil fuels, and support a cleaner, greener future.
Wind energy and hydro projects are also key components of the new policy. By supporting small hydro and wind projects, the state aims to diversify its renewable energy mix, ensuring a stable and sustainable power supply.
