At the meeting, chaired by District Revenue Officer R. Rajendran, Tamilaga Vivasayigal Sangam district president N.A. Ramachandra Raja said that sugarcane should be covered under crop insurance scheme. “Even an ordinary moped costing ₹30,000 has got an insurance scheme, but the sugarcane crop which costs ₹35,000 for cultivation for an acre does not have such a scheme to protect the interests of farmers,” he said.
