Rajasthan: Farmers in Bhilwara are being encouraged to boost maize yield to enhance ethanol production

Bhilwara, Rajasthan: Bhilwara will soon witness the establishment of an ethanol plant, which will require the availability of feedstock in large quantities. Therefore, farmers in Bhilwara are being encouraged to boost maize yields. The central government is also making continuous efforts in this direction. To promote energy security, save foreign exchange, and benefit the environment, farmers in Rajasthan are stepping up by increasing maize production to contribute to ethanol production, reported Rajasthan Patrika.

Bhilwara, along with Chittorgarh, Pratapgarh, Udaipur, Banswara, Dungarpur, Kota, and Bundi, is among the leading maize-producing districts in the state.

V.K. Jain, Deputy Director, Agriculture Department (Extension), Bhilwara, said, the central government is emphasizing maize-based ethanol production to reduce petroleum imports by blending ethanol with petrol. Bhilwara district, which leads one of the highest maize production in the state, has the advantage of cultivating this crop year-round. To boost ethanol production, farmers are being encouraged to increase maize yield.
