EIA: Ethanol production down 5%, stocks up 3%, exports up 48%

​U.S. fuel ethanol production declined by 5% to 1.053 million barrels per day for the week ending March 21, 2025, down from 1.105 million barrels the previous week. Concurrently, ethanol stocks increased by 3% to 27.35 million barrels, and exports surged by 48% to 164,000 barrels per day. ​

U.S. fuel ethanol production fell by 5% the week ending March 21, according to data released by the U.S. Energy Information Administration on March 26. Ethanol stocks were up 3% and exports were up 48%. 

Fuel ethanol production averaged 1.053 million barrels per day the week ending March 21, down 52,000 barrels per day when compared to the 1.105 million barrels per day of production reported for the previous week. When compared to the same week of last year, production for the week ending March 21 was down 1,000 barrels per day.

Weekly ending stocks of fuel ethanol reached 27.35 million barrels the week ending March 21, up 775,000 barrels when compared to the 26.575 million barrels of stocks reported for the previous week. When compared to the same week of last year, stocks for the week ending March 21 were up 1.258 million barrels. 

Exports of fuel ethanol averaged 164,000 barrels per day the week ending March 21, up 53,000 barrels per day when compared to the 111,000 barrels per day of exports reported for the previous week. When compared to the same week of last year, exports for the week ending March 21 were up 80,000 barrels per day. No fuel ethanol imports were reported for the week ending March 21.
