Pakistan: Government will ensure strict implementation of fixed sugar prices, says Minister

Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain, has assured that the government will ensure strict implementation of the fixed sugar prices across Pakistan amid growing public concern over rising sugar costs. He emphasized that immediate measures are being taken to address the concerns of sugar mill owners, as the nation continues to grapple with the burden of high sugar prices affecting consumers. He made these remarks on Saturday while presiding over a meeting at the Pakistan Agricultural Storage & Services Corporation (PASSCO) Head Office, focused on sugar pricing. The meeting reviewed proposals aimed at standardizing sugar prices across all provinces.
Highlighting serious concern over non-compliance with the fixed rates, the minister stressed that the government is taking firm steps to ensure strict enforcement. He also announced that Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar will meet with sugar mill owners on Monday to support the implementation of the pricing policy.
During the session, officials briefed the minister that sugar sales have risen this year compared to last. He directed authorities to reassess current sugar stock levels to help maintain price stability in the market. The meeting concluded with a firm commitment to safeguarding consumer interests and ensuring effective price control in the sugar sector.
