Enmore: Marking the 77th anniversary of the Enmore Martyrs, President Irfaan Ali pledged to “make sugar great again” and transform GuySuCo into a hub for rural development. Emphasizing crop and income diversification, he announced plans to co-invest with workers in new ventures, aiming to create thousands of jobs and boost Guyana’s agriculture sector.

At an event at the Enmore Martyrs Monument, President Irfaan Ali promised to “make sugar great again” and build a prosperous Guyana where “no one is left behind.”

On the 77th anniversary of the deaths of the five Enmore Martyrs, President Ali laid wreaths at the monument before delivering a 50-minute speech, outlining his vision for GuySuCo’s expanded role as a “hub of rural economic development.” He emphasized the use of the corporation’s land, infrastructure, and skilled labor force to support a broader range of agricultural activities, including rice, corn, cassava, livestock farming, agro-processing, and engineering services. He called for “crop diversification, skills diversification, income diversification,” and revealed plans to co-invest with workers in new ventures aimed at generating “tens of thousands of new jobs.”

President Ali also expressed gratitude to the Guyana Agricultural and General Workers Union (GAWU) and its members for their public endorsement of the People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C). He stressed that such backing is deeply valued by the party and serves as “motivation to recommit ourselves once more to the cause of every Guyanese, to the cause of every worker.”
