Bihar to get 9 ethanol plants by 2026: Minister


Bihar is set to become a key ethanol production hub, with nine plants expected by 2026. Minister Krishnanandan Paswan emphasized timely cane payments and urged faster execution of development schemes at a recent review meeting in Patna.
Bihar is on track to become one of the major hubs for ethanol production, with nine ethanol plants expected to be set up across the state by 2026. This development is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the sugarcane industry, promote the use of biofuels, and create new economic opportunities for farmers and local industries. The upcoming plants are expected to support sustainable energy goals while also adding value to sugarcane cultivation in the region.
Bihar Sugarcane Industry Minister Krishnanandan Paswan stated 9 ethanol plants in the state will be setup by next year, reported News24.
He was speaking at a high-level meeting was recently held at Vikas Bhawan in Patna to review the status of sugarcane payments, ongoing surveys, development of sugar mills, and implementation of key departmental schemes.
During the meeting, Minister Paswan warned all sugar mills that any delay in payments to farmers would not be tolerated. He informed that 99.8 percent of sugarcane payments have already been completed.
The minister instructed officials to speed up the implementation of major schemes, including the Chief Minister Sugarcane Development Scheme and the Mechanization Scheme, and the Bihar Jaggery Promotion Scheme.
Sugarcane Commissioner Anil Kumar Jha, Joint Commissioner JPN Singh, and senior officials, including general managers and heads of operational sugar mills in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh attended the meeting.
The state is developing high-yielding sugarcane seeds, which are expected to boost production and benefit farmers. Advanced seeds will be produced through tissue culture. The jaggery industry is also receiving support, and Bihar is emerging as a leading state in ethanol production. By 2026, nine ethanol plants are expected to be operational across the state.
