India’s Food Ministry has reduced the domestic sugar sale quota to 22 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) for July 2025, down from 24 LMT in July 2024 and 23 LMT in June 2025. Market experts say the move aligns with last year’s consumption of 21.30 LMT and may help stabilize prices amid ongoing supply management efforts.
In an announcement on June 26, the Food Ministry allocated a monthly sugar quota of 22 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) for July 2025, which is lower than the quota allocated for July 2024.
In July 2024, the government had allocated a monthly sugar quota of 24 LMT for domestic sale. For June 2025, the allocation of sugar quota was 23 LMT.
