Goa May Hike Paddy Support Price Further, Plans Rice Mill in State: CM Pramod Sawant

Goa Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant said the government may raise the paddy support price after consultations with farmers and the Agriculture Department. He also announced plans to set up a local rice mill to process Goan paddy, aiming to boost self-sufficiency, reduce reliance on outside mills, and support farmers.

Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant on Friday said the State government will consider increasing the support price for paddy after consulting with the Agriculture Department and local farmers. He also revealed plans to set up a rice mill in Goa to process locally cultivated rice within the state.

Speaking on the issue of agricultural support and self-sufficiency, the Chief Minister highlighted that the government had already raised the paddy support price from ₹22 to ₹26 per kilogram in the past. “We are open to further increasing the support price, but it will be done after taking both the department and farmers into confidence,” he said.

Sawant added that the government is actively working towards establishing a rice processing facility in Goa, which will boost value addition, reduce dependency on out-of-state mills, and ensure better returns for local farmers.

The move is part of the government’s broader strategy to strengthen the agricultural sector, promote local produce, and improve the economic well-being of Goan farmers.
