Maharashtra firm files cheating plaint against rice export agents

A Maharashtra-based export-import firm has filed a complaint with Udupi CEN police against three individuals for allegedly cheating it of ₹1.1 crore. The amount was paid in advance for rice procurement, but following a rice export ban in July 2023, the rice was neither exported nor the money refunded.

Udupi/ Mangaluru: A Maharashtra-based export-import company filed a complaint with Udupi CEN police against three individuals for allegedly cheating the firm by not returning Rs 1.1 crore that was paid as advance to procure rice. A case was registered at Udupi CEN police station.The complainant, Dhanashree Manohar Khale from Pune, stated that in 2022 she came into contact with representatives of a company involved in rice exports through a mutual friend.

According to the complaint, the accused are Dhanraj Hiriyanna Kidiyoor, Abhishek Reshmi, and Karthik M.Dhanashree visited the company’s office in Bengaluru on Dec 12, 2022, and entered into a business agreement with them for the export of rice. She made an advance payment of Rs 1.1 crore in June 2023 as part of the deal. However, in July 2023, the govt of India imposed a ban on rice exports. The accused allegedly neither exported the rice nor refunded the advance amount.Suspect held in Rahiman murder caseBantwal Rural police on Friday arrested a 32-year-old man in connection with the murder of Abdul Rahiman, which was reported on May 27 at Kuriyala village in Bantwal.
