Kazakhstan to cut grain exports in MY 2025/26
Kazakhstan expects to export 8–9 million tons of grain in 2025/26, down from 12 million last year, Vice Minister Azat Sultanov said. Harvest forecasts exceed 20 million tons with strong crop conditions, mostly third-class food grain. About 26 percent of farmland is already harvested, yielding 5.9 million tons. Saiga antelope caused minor damage.
In the current marketing year (from July 1, 2025 to June 30, 2026), Kazakhstan plans to export 8-9 million tons of grain compared to 12 million tons in the previous year. This was reported by Vice Minister of Agriculture Azat Sultanov.
“Based on the results of the marketing year, which ended in July, we exported about 12 million tons of grain in the form of grain and milled products… Taking into account the harvest forecasts, if the weather conditions are favorable for farmers, we are somewhere at the average annual level – this is about 8-9 million tons of grain we forecast export,” Sultanov told reporters on the sidelines of a joint meeting of the chambers of parliament.
According to him, this agricultural season Kazakhstan will harvest more than 20 million tons of grain. The condition of the crop in the fields is very good and most of it is represented by third-class food grain, the vice minister noted.
“There is practically no lost crop. If the weather conditions are favorable, we predict a harvest at the level of average annual volumes – this is over 20 million tons of grain,” he said.
The vice minister reported that saigas damaged part of the crops, but did not specify the specific area.
“At present, 26% of the total harvest area – this is 4.2 million hectares – has been harvested. About 5.9 million tons of grain have been threshed. Harvesting continues in all regions of the country,” Sultanov noted.
