Americans say that Romania will have the largest wheat harvest in the last 10 years by 2025

Romania is set to achieve its highest wheat production in a decade, with the USDA forecasting 12.5 million tons from 2.3 million hectares. This places the country fourth in the EU, after France, Germany, and Poland, surpassing the European Commission’s estimate of 11.9 million tons.
Romania is expected to record this year the highest wheat production in the last decade, according to the latest forecast from the US Department of Agriculture (USDA).
The estimates indicate a harvest of 12.5 million tons, obtained from an area of 2.3 million hectares.
Although official data from the National Institute of Statistics will only be published next year, USDA calculations place Romania in fourth place in the European Union, after France, Germany, and Poland, writes Economica.
More optimistic estimates than the European ones
American predictions even exceed the forecast of the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC), which in August estimated an average yield of 5.16 tons per hectare for Romania, meaning a total production of around 11.9 million tons.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, this year the area cultivated with autumn and spring wheat was 2.3 million hectares.
Romania, consistently in fourth place in the EU
With 12.5 million tons forecasted, Romania maintains its position as the fourth largest producer among European countries. France remains the leader with 34.1 million tons, followed by Germany (22.4 million tons) and Poland (12.9 million tons).
In 2024, Romania harvested 9.8 million tons, according to INS, representing an increase of almost 30% compared to last year. Even then, Romania was still in fourth place in the Union, closely following Poland.
