Season 2025-26: Sugarcane crushing in Maharashtra to begin on November 1

Maharashtra will begin sugarcane crushing for the 2025-26 season on November 1, following a meeting chaired by CM Devendra Fadnavis with the Committee of Ministers. The decision ensures mills’ preparedness for smooth operations. ISMA recently reaffirmed its sugar output estimate at 349 lakh tons, citing favourable monsoons and healthy crop growth.

Maharashtra’s sugarcane crushing for the sugar season 2025-26 is set to begin on November 1, as announced following a key meeting chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The meeting, which was held today at Mantralaya, involved the Committee of Ministers who discussed and approved date for the upcoming season.

The decision comes after a comprehensive review of the sugar industry’s operational guidelines for the state’s sugar factories. The start date for crushing is seen as critical for the smooth functioning of sugar production across Maharashtra, one of India’s largest producers of sugarcane.

The meeting emphasized the importance of ensuring that the sugar mills are adequately prepared for the season.

Recently, the Indian Sugar & Bio-Energy Manufacturers Association (ISMA) reaffirmed its earlier projection of 349 lakh tons of gross sugar production for the 2025-26 season, following a crop review based on fresh satellite imagery and ground reports.

According to ISMA, favourable monsoon conditions in Maharashtra and Karnataka, aided by abundant rainfall in August, have ensured healthy crop growth and normal development.
