In 2025, Kazakhstan will harvest 17.2 million tons of wheat, class 3 – no more than 40% – Grain Union

Kazakhstan’s 2025 wheat harvest is forecast at 17.2 million tons, down from 18.6 million tons in 2024, with lower protein and gluten due to cool, rainy weather. Food-grade class 3 wheat will make up 40% of the crop. Wheat exports are projected at 6 million tons, mainly to Central Asia.
According to the updated forecast of the Analytical Committee of the Grain Union of Kazakhstan (GUK), the gross wheat harvest in Kazakhstan in 2025 will amount to 17.2 million tons (2024 – 18.6 million tons), and 16.3 million tons after processing (-0.2 million tons compared to last year’s crop). This was reported by the head of the Committee, Evgenii Karabanov, in his Telegram channel.
“The current quality of the wheat being harvested is lower than expected due to cool and rainy weather in August, during the ripening and grain-filling period. This affected protein and gluten content, which turned out to be lower than last year’s levels. According to the GUK forecast, in the structure of the harvested wheat crop, the share of food-grade class 3 wheat will be no more than 40%, class 4 – 40%, class 5 and non-classified – 20%,” the expert specified.
According to him, the conservative forecast for total wheat exports from GUK in the current marketing year is 6 million tons. The main destinations are Central Asian countries.
In the past season, total exports of Kazakh wheat (soft and durum) reached a value close to the record of the 2022/23 MY – over 7.6 million tons. The main buyers were, traditionally, Central Asian countries: Uzbekistan – 3.79 million tons (50% of total exports), Tajikistan – 1.31 million tons (17%), Afghanistan – 347.000 tons, Kyrgyzstan – 200.000 tons, Turkmenistan – 52.000 tons. For the first time in a long while, Kazakhstan also exported large volumes of wheat to Azerbaijan and Georgia.
