UP leads India in sugar, sugarcane and ethanol production: Yogi Adityanath
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said the state has become India’s leading producer of sugar, sugarcane and ethanol, citing ₹3.23 lakh crore in cane payments, ₹400/quintal cane price, 122 operational sugar mills, and infrastructure projects boosting farmer incomes and market access.
Amroha: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday said the state has emerged as India’s leading producer of sugar, sugarcane and ethanol, crediting the government’s policies for strengthening the sugar sector and improving farmers’ incomes.
Addressing a public gathering after inaugurating and laying the foundation stones for 43 development projects worth more than ₹207 crore in Amroha, the Chief Minister said the state government has paid ₹3.23 lakh crore in sugarcane dues to farmers and increased the sugarcane price to ₹400 per quintal, Kisan Tak reported.
Yogi said the state’s sugar economy has been transformed through timely cane payments, better infrastructure and policy support. He added that these measures have helped improve farmers’ incomes while making Uttar Pradesh the country’s leading state in sugar, sugarcane and ethanol production.
Highlighting the government’s efforts in the sugar sector, the Chief Minister alleged that previous governments had shut down 29 sugar mills and sold 21 mills at low prices. In contrast, he said the present government is successfully operating 122 sugar mills across the state.
“If the previous governments had remained in power, Uttar Pradesh’s sugar industry would have collapsed by now,” he said.
Yogi said improved infrastructure, enhanced connectivity and industrial development have created new opportunities for farmers and rural communities. He added that projects such as the Ganga Expressway and better connectivity to Haridwar would provide mango growers and other farmers with easier access to markets.
The Chief Minister also said Amroha is no longer a backward district and highlighted its globally recognised tabla manufacturing industry.
Referring to sugarcane farmers, Yogi said that before 2017, timely payment of cane dues was a major challenge. He said the present government has ensured higher cane prices and faster payments while undertaking development projects designed to meet the state’s requirements for the next 50 to 100 years.
