Sugar prices in Pakistan have surged, reaching a maximum of 229 PKR per kilogram in Quetta. Statistics show that last year, the average price was 132.24 PKR per kilogram. The recent spike has pushed Quetta residents to pay the highest rates in the country.
In the past week, Quetta saw an increase of 19 PKR per kilogram, with prices rising from 210 to 229 PKR. Peshawar reported a maximum price of 200 PKR per kilogram, while Karachi and Islamabad recorded 195 PKR. Rawalpindi residents face rates up to 190 PKR per kilogram.
Despite the regional spikes, the national average sugar price decreased slightly in the last week by 2.01 PKR, bringing it down to 185.47 PKR per kilogram. Statistics indicate that the previous week’s average was 187.48 PKR per kilogram.
The dramatic year-on-year increase highlights ongoing inflationary pressures in the country. The current prices mark nearly a 74% rise compared to last year, putting pressure on consumers nationwide.
Experts warn that unless supply and production challenges are addressed, sugar prices may continue to fluctuate. Consumers are advised to monitor local market rates and purchase responsibly to manage household budgets.
