Country targets 150 new sugar mills, Haryana crushing season on
Haryana will contribute to India’s goal of establishing 150 new sugar mills, with plans for a cooperative mill in Naraingarh. At sugar mill season inaugurations, ministers announced record cane prices, improved logistics, and rising crushing volumes. Officials pledged incentives, timely payments, and machinery support to strengthen the cooperative sugar sector.
Shahabad (Kurukshetra): The country’s co-operation sector is poised for a major expansion, with Union co-operation minister Amit Shah setting a national goal to establish 150 new sugar mills as part of the vision for a ‘Developed India by 2047′.For contributing to this national initiative, Haryana is on job to set up a new co-operative sugar mill in Naraingarh, Haryana co-operation minister Arvind Sharma has claimed. He addressed the inaugural ceremonies of the 50th crushing season of the Karnal co-operative sugar mill and the 42nd season of the Shahabad co-operative sugar mill via online mode. He highlighted the state govt’s efforts to support sugarcane farmers, including setting the country’s highest procurement price.Chief minister Nayab Singh Saini announced that Haryana will pay the farmers Rs 415 for each quintal of early varieties of sugarcane and Rs 408 for each quintal of late varieties. Sharma stated he would meet the CM to seek special incentive schemes for the state’s sugarcane farmers.
The minister emphasized that the cooperative sector is crucial to achieving national development goals. He noted that the Haryana govt has taken steps to ensure timely payments and improved logistics for farmers. A key improvement is the introduction of an online token system, which has helped farmers save 10 to 12 hours in transporting cane to the mills. Thanks to efforts last year to reconnect former cane growers with the mills, both mills anticipate a significant increase in crushing volume this season. Karnal mill is expected to crush an additional 3.9 lakh quintals of cane, while Shahabad mill is expected to receive an additional 2 lakh quintals. Sharma directed mill managements to prioritize farmers’ welfare, ensuring they “face no difficulties” and to “win their hearts”. He also committed to urging the CM to provide farmers with subsidized harvesting machinery to ease their workload and launch new incentive schemes to encourage continuous cane cultivation.
