Pakistan : Recent sugarcane crushing season yielding positive results

Punjab Cane Commissioner Amjad Hafeez said sugar prices have fallen sharply due to the ongoing crushing season. Ex-mill rates now range from Rs147–166 per kg across divisions, with the lowest prices in Bahawalpur and Rahim Yar Khan. Retail prices have also declined, and further reductions are expected as production increases.

LAHORE, Dec 19 (APP): Punjab Cane Commissioner Amjad Hafeez said on Friday that recent sugarcane crushing season had led to a  significant reduction of sugar prices.

According to a handout issued here on Friday he said that a noticeable decline had been observed in the ex-mill prices of sugar at sugar mills in the various divisions of Punjab and this also resulted in a major decrease in retail sugar prices.

Amjad Hafeez said, “The ex-mill price of sugar at sugar mills in the Bahawalpur Division is Rs 147 to Rs 148 per kilogram.” The ex-mill price at sugar mills in Rahim Yar Khan had also been recorded between Rs 147 to Rs 148 per kilogram. In the Dera Ghazi Khan Division, the ex-mill price of sugar at sugar mills remained between Rs 150 to Rs 160 per kilogram.

He further stated that the largest reduction in ex-mill sugar prices had been recorded at sugar mills in the Multan and Faisalabad divisions, where price was between Rs 150 to Rs 155 per kilogram.

The ex-mill price at sugar mills in the Gujranwala Division was between Rs 164 to Rs 166 per kilogram, while in the Lahore, Sargodha and Rawalpindi Divisions, the ex-mill price of sugar was also between Rs 150 to Rs 160 per kilogram.

The cane commissioner further said that the retail price of sugar in the markets of  Punjab was from Rs 147 to Rs 166 per kilogram, and with an possible increase in sugar production in the coming days, further reduction in prices was expected.
